Universal Import & Export

Veyak v0.8.0 introduces native, zero-friction import and export capabilities powered by the dedicated veyak-import-export Rust crate. You can migrate your entire API workspace from existing tools in seconds without lock-in.

📦 Supported Platforms & Formats

Veyak features intelligent file format detection:

Format / Tool File Types Supported Elements
Postman Collection v2.1 (.json) Requests, nested folders, headers, params, raw/form/url bodies, bearer & basic auth, collection variables
Postman Environments Environment (.json) Key-value variable sets, enabled flags, secret masking
Insomnia v4 / v5 Export bundle (.json, .yaml) Workspaces, requests, folders, headers, authentication settings, environments
Bruno Collection / Folder exports Directory hierarchies, .bru files, headers, query params, auth
Yaak Workspace dump (.json) Workspaces, folders, requests, environment variables
Veyak Native Backup JSON Complete high-fidelity export of collections, requests, scripts, and environments

📥 Importing Collections

You can trigger the Import Dialog using multiple entry points:

  1. Sidebar: Click the Import button at the top of the collections list.
  2. Title Bar: Select File → Import Collection.
  3. Command Palette: Press Cmd+K (macOS) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) and type Import.

The Import Flow

  1. Drag-and-drop your export file (.json or .yaml) into the Import Modal, or click Browse Files.
  2. Veyak’s native detector instantly inspects file signatures and identifies the format (e.g. Detected: Postman v2.1 Collection).
  3. Review the Live Preview showing the detected collection name, request count, folder depth, and environment variables.
  4. Select your target Workspace and click Import.
  5. Your collections, folders, and requests appear immediately in your sidebar, ready to execute.

📤 Exporting Collections

To export any collection or environment for version control, backup, or sharing with teammates:

  1. Right-click any collection in the sidebar → Export Collection.
  2. Or open the Export Modal from the Command Palette (Cmd+K / Ctrl+K → Export).
  3. Choose the export format (Veyak Native JSON, Postman Collection v2.1, or portable format).
  4. Select whether to include collection-scoped environment variables.
  5. Choose your destination file path to save the bundle.

🛡️ Variable & Secret Safety

When exporting collections that contain environment variables:

  • Secrets marked as Secret can be optionally scrubbed or exported with placeholder values to prevent accidental credential leakage in Git repositories or shared channels.
  • Collection-scoped environments remain intact and can be imported alongside your request tree.
